The Uganda delegation who on Friday ended their study tour in India met with the Indian Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Sh. Pawan Kumar Bansal on Thursday.

According to a statement from the Indian Parliament, Sh. Bansal apprised the Uganda delegation about the Indian Parliamentary system – the advantages of a bicameral assembly structure; the system of Department related Committees, Consultative Committees, method of their composition; the role of Chief Whips in ensuring smooth conduct of the House, among other issues.

Sh. Bansal also expressed hope that this visit of the delegation would act as a precursor to ‘friendship groups’ being formed with the Parliamentarians from Uganda.

Sh Bansal also expressed his condolence condemning the recent bomb attack incidence in Kampala on 11th July 2010 that resulted in the death of more than 80 people.

The statement says the Ugandan delegation on their part shared their information about the unicameral Parliament of Uganda. Kassiano Wadri informed the Indian Minister for Parliamentary Affairs that every district of Uganda has a slot fixed for a woman representative. After attending the sittings of Lok Sabha on Thursday, Wadri said Uganda looks to learn a lot from the Indian legislative system
