Hundreds of mourners flock Binaisa’s home

Hundreds of mourners, including Members of Parliament, officials from Buganda Kingdom, Statehouse and central government Ministers are flocking the home of the fallen  President of Uganda, Godfrey Lukongwa Binaisa to pay their last tribute to him.

Binaisa has died today morning at his home situated in Kizungu Zone in Makindye Division, Kampala district.

The Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura has described the fallen president as a “jolly man”.

He praises him as a person who was not sectarian. Kayihura says the late President could afford a smile on his face even during difficult times.

Kayihura further says it is sad that Binaisa has died at this time when the country needed him most. He says the former president’s death is a pity and tragic.

The President General of the Democratic Party, Norbert Mao has described Binaisa as a “very generous” person. “He was very instrumental in laying a foundation for the development of democracy and rule of law in Uganda,” Mao says.

Binaisa has for long been suffering from hypertension and diabetes. His Son, James Binaisa has told mourners that Binaisa could not wake up for about two days and when they checked him they could not feel his pulse. He says they called the neighbours who pronounced him dead on their arrival.

Born on May 30th, 1920, Binaisa was a lawyer by profession. The body was transported to Mid Care Clinic in Kampala for postmortem check.
