The chairperson of Electoral Commission, Eng. Badru Kiggundu has denied allegations that a figure of 15,000,336 million registered voters is inconsistent with the statistics released recently by the Uganda Bureau of Standards.

Uganda Bureau of Standards published that the country’s population in 2009 stood at 30,661,290. The number of persons aged above 18 years or eligible voters stood at 12,593,900.

Kiggundu says EC does not have any plan to inflate the figures of Uganda voters.
According to EC, Uganda has over 5,037,079 registered voters for 2011 elections.

The chairperson urges Ugandans to turn up in large numbers from August 11th to 30th 2010 to verify the correctness of the National Voters register.

Kiggundu reminds Ugandans that the commission is till committed to holding free and fair elections in 2011.
