Police deploys at NRM head offices in Kampala to restore calm, elections postponed

The police have been heavily deployed at the headquarters of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) on plot 10 Kyadongo Road to in Kampala to restore calm.

NRM Party supporters stormed the offices earlier demanding an explanation as to why the primary elections in Kampala have been postponed.  This follows reports of vote rigging in Kampala.

The Deputy Director of Police in charge of Operations, Grace Turyagumanawe has assured the ruling party supporters that investigations have commenced and that those implicated in vote rigging will be punished.

Turyagumanawe says the police will remain deployed at NRM headquarters to ensure calm and security.

The NRM party primaries have been postponed in Kampala, Wakiso, Sembabule, Mbarara and several parts of Uganda due to election related irregularities, while in some places like Iganga and Kibaale, the  voting materials did not arrive in time.
