World Health Organisation concerned over dropping immunization levels

The World Health Organisation has expressed concern over the low immunization coverage in Hoima district.

Dr. Patrick Banura, the World Health Organizational technical adviser on immunization says Hoima is among the districts with limited immunization coverage in the country, with the district registering 55% immunization coverage compared to 85% two years ago.

Addressing health officials at Riveira hotel this morning, he calls for partnership between the district health officials and other health related non governmental officials in raising people’s awareness about the advantages of immunization.

He says that lack of adequate sensitization and awareness campaigns to parents may be the major reason as to why the rate of child immunization is sloping down the chart.

Meanwhile  Fred Byenume, the district health inspector attributed the drop to poor attitude the community has towards immunizing their children.

He says that communities around the lake shores believe myths that immunizations cripple their children.

He says that mass immunization sensitization campaigns would be launched along the lake Albert shores to raise their awareness in immunization

Byenume calls on parents to embrace child health days plus which will commence on October this year to avoid immunisable diseases from attacking their children.

During the child days plus, the Uganda ministry of health will be offering immunization to children in different parts of the country.
