A Clean Energy Entrepreneur Applauds Secretary Clinton’s Announcement of the Global Alliance for Clean Cook Stoves

Today, Ronald Mutebi, the President of Chicago based Tek Consults Group who has been testing and distributing Cooking Solar Ovens in Africa and is in final stages of setting up a manufacturing plant in Uganda, applauded Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s support of the Clean Cook but challenged the State Department to take the next step.

Mutebi said, “As someone who has been involved in the promotion of the Clean Energy solution for cooking as an alternative to the cutting of trees for firewood and charcoal for over seven years now, I was overjoyed to hear this announcement by Secretary Clinton, Tuesday afternoon. This continues to re-affirm my confidence in the US policy towards addressing the challenge of Global Warming. More so, I am very confident in the Public Private Partnership approach through which it is going to be implemented because it has proven to be the quickest, sustainable and wholistic approach since we do not have the luxury of time to avoid irreversible damage to our environment.”

“I call upon everyone involved in Clean Energy initiatives to join hands in this effort and partner in this new endeavor under the leadership of the United Nations Foundation [UNF] so that we do not come back after another decade with little or no tangible results realized. I would personally request that more emphasis is put towards the promotion of especially those technologies that are totally independent of the environmental fabric for their source of fuel. Since this technology already exists today, we should work to make it readily affordable to those who need it the most , especially those who depend on the environment for their basic survival.

Tek Consults Group, has been working to introduce Cooking Solar Ovens [Sun Oven] in Africa for more than seven years and is in the final stages of setting up an Oven manufacturing plant in Uganda. Also, Tek Consults is one of the winners of the ADM Marketplace Business Plan Competition which was co-sponsored by USAID and Western Union organized by AED. As President Bill Clinton wrote in his forward to Michael Green and Bishop’s book PhilanthroCapitalisim, that “Our interdependent world is too unequal, unstable and [because of climate change], unsustainable. We have to transform it into one of shared responsibilities, shared opportunities, and a shared sense of community”. For all the time Tek Consults has been testing, and demonstrating the Sun Ovens in Africa, it has had to rely on different organizations and individuals to donate the ovens for its entire R&D process showing how public private partnerships can work.
