Museveni promises more support for peri urban enterprises

President Yoweri Museveni has called upon all Ugandans to engage in income generating activities in order to increase individual and household incomes, saying it is the basic foundation of solving most of the challenges facing Ugandans.

He said this during a mobilization and sensitization tour of governments Prosperity for All (PFA) programme in Kampala district.

President Museveni says there is need for modern agro production practices in urban and peri urban areas by initiating high value and marketable enterprises that can be carried out in small spaces in order to realize increased house hold incomes.

According to a statemenet from Statehouse, President Museveni made spot visits to homes in the suburbs of Kamokya where he visited the home of Flavia Nanyonga of Quarter Zone who keeps poultry and later visited another poultry project initiated by Aisha Mukisa Nalongo of Kagugube zone next to Law Development centre before addressing a mammoth rally at Nakivubo Blue Primary school grounds. He advised the women to initiate other projects such as tailoring and embroidery to supplement their incomes. He later visited another farmer Namusisi Damalie in Nabisunsa Parish near Kyambogo University before holding another rally at Makerere University Business School, Nakawa playground.

Museveni promised residents organized in groups of government support through their organized groups to access tool boxes and loans to improve their businesses.

The statement says the President who was impressed by the performance of the few NAADS beneficiaries whose projects he visited pledged government support in identifying more channels through which government can empower the urban poor.

He encouraged women to focus on projects that can be accommodated in the limited space including knitting, poultry, tailoring etc as these have a ready market.
