News Release

Attorney-General Hon Robert McClelland MP and Commonwealth Secretary-General Kamalesh Sharma – Joint media release

Attorney-General, Robert McClelland and Commonwealth Secretary-General Kamalesh Sharma have launched the July 2011 Commonwealth Law Ministers Meeting (CLMM) website.

The website was launched to coincide with a Senior Officials of Commonwealth Law Ministries Meeting in London.  It contains latest news, information about the host city and a video welcome from the Attorney-General.

“The Commonwealth Law Ministers Meeting is an ideal forum for working together to promote the rule of law, recognition of human rights and improve access to justice across the Commonwealth,” Mr McClelland said.

This is the first time Australia has hosted the CLMM, which is held every three years and which last met in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 2008.

An expected 350 delegates will attend the meeting, and the website will be the central point of reference for delegates, the media, and the interested public.

Commonwealth Secretary-General Kamalesh Sharma welcomed the launch of the website and thanked the host nation.

“We are very grateful to the Government and people of Australia, and of New South Wales in particular, for hosting the Commonwealth Law Ministers Meeting. The launch of the website brings us one step closer, and will add enormous global value. Australia will be a hub of Commonwealth life and activity in 2011,” Mr Sharma said.

The CLMM is the summit meeting of First Law Officers of the Commonwealth’s 54 member countries, and will be held in Sydney from 11 to 14 July 2011. In October 2011 the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting will be held in Perth.
