Government urged to increase funding to persons with disabilities activities

Uganda has joined the rest of the world to mark the international Day of Persons with Disabilities that is observed every 3 December.

The day is aimed at promoting awareness of disability issues, the fundamental rights of persons with disabilities and integration of persons with disabilities in the main stream of each aspect of the social, political, economic and cultural status of their communities.

This year’s national celebrations were held in Busoga square in Jinja under the theme “keeping the promise: mainstreaming disability in the millennium”.

During the celebrations, the coordinators of the Jinja district association for the blind Fazira Kahuma argued the government and President Museveni to increase funding and support the activities of the disabled to help them make a better contribution to national development in Uganda.
