Uganda health workers warned over corruption and absenteeism

The government has sounded a strong warning against health workers who are engaged in corruption related practices.

President Yoweri Museveni says the government is set to intensify efforts to arrest health workers who abscond from work, solicit for money from patients and those who steal government medical drugs for use in their private clinics.

He says when such health workers are arrested and proved guilty, their professional credentials are nullified and they won’t be able to get jobs anywhere else.

“We shall continue arresting those doctors until they lose appetite for stealing our drugs,” Museveni said yesterday as he campaigned at at Nawandala Sub-County headquarters in Kigulu North Constituency in Iganga district.

Museveni is current on his campaign trail in Busoga that will take him to the districts of Iganga, Mayuge, Bugiri, Namayingo, Kaliro, Namutumba, Kiyunga, Kamuli, Buyende and Jinja.

Museveni pledged government support in the refurbishment and expansion of Iganga and Bugono Hospitals to enable them cope with the big numbers of patients.
