BAT stores on fire in Kyambogo

BATU Public Relations Officer, Solomon Muyita, says the company lost about 23 billion shillings in today’s fire that gutted the silos (store) keeping more than two million kilograms of sorted tobacco due for export.

Eurofoam  is a company that makes Euroform mattresses located in Kyambogo a Kampala city suburb near the BAT stores.

The fire started at about 2PM and it is said to have started in the factory main store where chemicals and other factory equipment are kept.

The company workers tried to put off fire using their local fire extinguishers but fire continued until the police Fire Brigade was called to save the situation.

The fire Brigade tried their effort to put the fire but fewer properties were saved and police blamed the gravity of the fire to the closeness of the factory buildings that could not allow the fire fighting vehicle to swing around, as well as the tobacco which catches and spreads fire.

By 6pm, the fire was still raging and the fire brigade was still fighting to stop it. No body was by the time of filing this story reported injured on dead.
