Washington and UK condemn Museveni’s abuse of human rights

The United States and United Kingdom governments have denounced the Uganda police’s act of manhandling and arresting the demonstrators on 11th April.

 

The US State Department deputy spokesperson Mark Toner issued a proclamation stating that freedoms of expression and peaceful assembly are fundamental human rights and a critical component of functioning democracies.

 

On 11th April several politicians were arrested for walking on foot to their various offices in a demonstration against the rising prices of basic goods and fuel prices.

 

The police interpreted the opposition leaders’ walk on foot as an act that would attract other member of the public’s excitement that would result into violence.

 

The police arrested the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) President Kiiza Besigye, Norbert Mao Democratic Party (DP) President, various MPs and civilians.
