Francis Xavier Kigeni, a 3rd year student of Social Sciences reportedly jumped to his death on Monday as the police and army battled other Uganda protesters against the rising cost of living.

The Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, Ibin Ssenkumbi told journalists that Higenyi was due for an exam on Monday but didn’t appear, which prompted his friends to mount a search for him.

On searching, Kigeni was found dead having thrown himself from the top floor of his hall of residence, Baskon. Senkumbi says Kigeni left a suicide note indicating that he had decided to end his life because he cannot afford to meet his basic necessities and that his life was hopeless.

Kigeni is alleged to have stated in the suicide note that he had tried to innovate ways to meet his basic life needs, but he is no longer hopeful of being able to meet his needs.

Kigeni was staying in the same room with his tow brothers. One of the brothers, Emmanuel Kisadha told police that Kigeni was acting strange in recent times.
