Female teachers complain being not promoted as their male counterparts

The female teachers have expressed their dissatisfaction with the Ministry of Education in a way promotions to senior positions are being handled.

In her address at the workshop in Mukono town, the National Teachers Union Chairperson Mukono district Josephine Nabuyugwe said that women have more potential than men but getting headships to schools is still considered to be for men.

Nabuyugwe says that the ratio of headmistresses to headmasters countrywide is still very low.

She adds that women have also gone to schools paying the same school fees as their male counterparts but the ministry considers men mostly for headships.

They have asked the ministry to stop the perception that top jobs can only be done by men.

The workshop was organized by the National Teachers Union and Women Network for Africa.
