Ugandans want accountability for petroleum samples

The Ugandans have asked the government to account for the proceeds that will be realized from the sales of oils samples that will be produced in June this year.

The Director of Albertine Rift Basin Environmental Watch [local NGO], Michael Mugume says that the time for producing the fuel samples for 90 days are so close but the locals are still ignorant of what is going on.

Mugume says that the local communities are not aware of the crude testing project and how the revenue will be shared.

An officer from Tullow, the oil producing company says that on the request of the government, Tullow is not supposed to dispense information related to oil and gas to the public.

However, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral development, Fred Kabagame says that the ministry is in discussion with government on the issues of revenues that will be realized from the sale of oil samples. He says that the ministry shall furnish the public with the right information at an appropriate time.
