Parliament to investigate land wrangles in Namanve forest

The Parliament of Uganda has said it will make investigations in the Namanve land wrangles between residents and the National Forestry Authority (NFA) in which NFA wants the residents to evacuate the alleged government land reserve.

The Vice Chairman of the Parliamentary Natural Resources Committee Wamakuyu Mudimi says that parliament will carry our investigations before government or NFA evacuates the residents.

The residents have written to parliament to put an injunction on NFA from evacuating them because they have been on the land for a long time.

The land in question has so far caused bloodshed and residents insist they will not evacuate the land unless government compensates them.

Wamakuyu says that the ownership of the land in question is confusing because some residents say they are tenants of the Buganda Kingdom and others say they bought the land while government also claims ownership of the same land.
