Kenyans cited in illegal gold trade in Uganda

The government of Uganda has alleged that there is illegal gold trade carried out between unscrupulous Ugandans and Kenyan nationals in north eastern Uganda.

George Obia, the Karamoja Police Spokesperson says that some Kenyans have been reported entering Uganda illegally to mine gold in Nakapiripirit district with assistance from the locals.

Obia says the police and other security agencies have set an intelligence network which has so far caused the arrest of 40 suspected illegal gold miners most of whom Ugandans.

The police officer says that the arrested are the core suspects and they will assist the police in the investigations.

Obai has asked the Kenyans and Ugandans who want to mine gold in north eastern Uganda to pass through right procedures otherwise they risk being arrested and prosecuted.
