Jacob Oulayah elected Deputy Speaker of Parliament

The Omoro county Member of Parliament, NRM Jacob Oulanyah has been elected the Deputy Speaker of the Uganda’s 9th parliament in the elections that were conducted on May 19 at parliament in Kampala.

Oulanya contested with the Aruu county legislator, FDC Odonga Otto. Oulanyah garnered 299 (83.8%) votes against his opponent’s 58 (16.2%) votes.

Oulanyah was nominated by Bunyangabu MP, Adolf Mwesige and seconded by Sanjay Tana and Asuman Kiyingi, MPs for Tororo municipality and Bugabula south respectively. Otto was nominated by Florence Ekwau and seconded by Elijah Okupa and Gilbert Olanya.

In essence, the National Resistance Movement has taken all the top posts in the 9th parliament after the Kamuli Woman legislator Rebecca Kadaga beat the Budadiri West County MP, FDC Nandala Mafabi in the elections for the Speaker of Parliament on May 19. Kadaga polled 302 votes against Mafabi’s 57 votes.
