Defilement cases on the rise despite stiff court sentences

A sixty year old man has been sentenced to 23 years in jail for defilement. Wilber Baryamushaka a resident of Kyenjojo district is said have sexually assaulted an 8 year old girl as she returned home from school.

It is allegedly that a crumbed this victim from the road and dragged her to a nearby bush. A ten year old boy saw the incidence and raised an alarm. Fort portal High Court judge Justice Atwooki has blasted Wilber for defiling a child who is old enough to be his granddaughter.

In related development, court sitting in Kibaale district has released 12 suspects because of stinking.

Kagadi grade I magistrate Benon Semondo released the suspects unconditionally and accused the police for producing unhygienic suspects before court. Semondo released them on a non cash court bond saying they could not be mixed with other suspects in prison.

One of the suspects told court that they had spent two weeks in detention without taking bath. Police however say they are forced to keep the suspects because magistrates are not available to hear victim’s cases.
