Uganda’s inflation high by 50%

The inflation in Uganda has surpassed the Central Bank’s target creating fears that if the inflationary rate persists the government may not hit its Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015.

The data released by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) this month, has indicated that the Bank of Uganda’s had a target of 10 percent inflation but was surpassed in April to 14.1 percent.

Though the World Bank has reported that the Least Developed Countries have had a reduction of inflation from 8.2 per cent in 2007 to 5.4 per cent in 2011, Uganda’s inflation is still soaring.

The World Bank has asked the LDCs to institute policies that can curb the inflationary rate to protect their growth rate.
