Police and opposition politicians meet over Al-Shabab threats

The Ugandan  opposition political leaders have met with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura over the Al-Shabab terrorism attacks threats. The meeting was conducted at the Central Police Station (CPS) in Kampala on May 27.

The IGP, early this week, copied letters to all leaders of the political parties informing them about the Al-Shabab’s threats of wanting to attack Uganda’s opposition politician.

The Police Counter Terrorism boss Abas Byakagaba was also in the meeting asked the politicians not to politicize the issue because the information in the letters they received is from reliable intelligence sources. He said that for them as police it is their work to ensure every Ugandan is safe irrespective of their political affiliations.

He asked the politicians to avoid making assemblies without seeking for security from the government.

Byakagaba has also asked Ugandans to be careful when observing the Uganda Martyrs Day on June 3 at Namugongo and other gatherings like the match between Uganda Cranes and Guinea Bissau at Nambole National Stadium on June 4.

He asked entertainers and those making parties to also ensure security is guaranteed before they conduct the events.
