Uganda urged not to segregate Somalis over terrorism attacks

The anti-terrorism police unit is asking the general public to desist from any act of segregation towards the Somali nationals living Uganda in the wake of a new threat of terror attack to Uganda.

This comes after members of the Somali community in Uganda expressed fears of possible resentment by Ugandans after police warned that Somali based al-shabab are planning to attack Uganda.

The head of the anti-terrorism unit Habas Byakagaba says their investigations are targeting terrorists but not all Somali nationals.

Byakagaba says Somali is also a member of the IGAD community and therefore there is no reason to limit Somali’s from moving since not all Somalis are terrorists.

Last week the anti-terrorism police unit confirmed reports of Al-shabab terrorists sneaking into the country and have warned Ugandans to be on the alert for any suspicious characters.
