Lydia Wanyoto says East Africa Community budget focused on better regional integration

The East African community has passed its budget for the financial year 2011/2012. According to Lydia Wanyonto, one of Uganda’s representatives to the east African legislative assembly the budget was passed 0n the 26th of May last week .

She said that the assembly passed 122 million US dollars compared to 77million US dollars that the community passed for the last financial year.

Wanyoto said that the major priority for the community will be the implementation of the East African Community Market Protocol, for which over 1O million US dollars have been provided.

She says that the protocol has four major pillars and this puts it at the fore front. She says that the pillars include free movement of people, free movement and establishment, land and education and services.

Other priorities to be focused on include the conclusion of the east African community monetary union protocol, deepening co-operation in defense and political matters, promotion of agriculture and food security and implementation of climate change action plan among others.
