Electoral Commission chairman summoned over Gilbert Bukenya’s election victory

The Kampala High court has summoned the EC chairperson Eng. Badru Kiggundu to appear before it on the 22nd of this month to be examined in regard to the alleged electoral irregularities that marred Parliamentary elections in Busiro North constituency.

Justice Kibuuka Musoke has also ordered one Hussein Bukenya the complainant to produce all the 24 witnesses on the 20th of June.

Former Vice President Prof. Gilbert Bukenya the winner of the said post has also been ordered to produce his 8 defence witnesses for cross examination.

The judge has also left the matter open for the two to pursue an out of court settlement.

Samuel Mulindwa and Ben Ikilayi have represented the petitioner, Kiyemba Mutale for Prof. Bukenya while Macdusman Kabega and Tom Magezi have represented the EC.

Hussein Bukenya the loser in the election is seeking orders to nullify and set aside the outcome of the election and compel the EC to conduct fresh elections.

He accuses the former Vice President of bribing voters, as well as intimidating and harassing those who never supported him.

He also accuses the EC of omitting his name Kasta and replacing it with Katya which denied him a right to participate in the election.

He further blames the EC for failing to conduct elections in a free and fair way, failing in its duty to stop the winner from violating the electoral laws.

Former VP Bukenya won with 17,382 votes while Kasta Bukenya polled 4953 votes
