Kampala Capital City Authority councilors want their salaries increased to 13 million shillings

The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) councilors have asked for an increment of the monthly emoluments for each councilor from the current 1.4 million shillings per month to about 13.5 million shillings per month.

The message is contained in a letter the councilors wrote to the Executive Director, Jennifer Semakula Musisi asking her to put their salaries close  to what the Members of Parliament earn.

A member of parliament earns 15 million shillings a month though they have also asked for an increment to 19 million shillings.

However, the Executive Director has declined to honor the councilors request saying that the KCCA funds collections is still low to cater for such salaries.

She adds that the claim has come in while she has already presented the budget to the Ministry of Finance.

Semakula explains that the councilors’ request puts their annual salary budget from 1.8 billion shillings to about 8 billion shillings.
