Makerere University to offer vocational skills training

Makerere has stepped up efforts to spread vocational education in a bid to close unemployment gap. Under the development the university is working with partners like Uganda investment authority to drive this initiative which however is not yet mainstreamed program.

The vice chancellor of Makerere university venansius Baryamureba says the venture will include promotion of research and innovation in the various departments.

Addressing the monthly media conference at the Makerere University Baryamureba said they have already ruled out the program which is running in the ICT, Engineering, and vetinary departments.

Baryamureba says the university has already had discussions with some developmental partners that are willing to setup regional technology science parks.

He says there is no need to have such vocational training at the university but rather at upcountry industrial parks.
