Uganda urged to solve problem of school dropout in primary and secondary

The ministry of education has finalized the process of introducing universal secondary education at advanced level.

Government has allocated 58 billion shillings to support the new initiative which begins early next year. Speaking to the media in Kampala, the permanent secretary in the ministry of education Francis Tibararo said the money shall be used to purchase equipments, Books as well as recruitment of then 1000 teachers.

In a related development, government has been argued to address the challenge of increased rate of drop outs as it aims to improve the quality of education.

The education sectors budget received an addition boost of 115.9 billion shillings on the last year’s allocation of 13 trillion shillings.

The addition allocation is meant to build on the success of the universal primary and secondary education. Uganda is reported to have the highest numbers of school dropout rate in East Africa with 1.5 million pupils not making it to secondary schools annually.

The managing director monitor publication LTD Dr. Gitahi Githinji says government has to come up clearly with measures of addressing the increasing school dropout rate.

He adds that uneducated and unskilled population resulting from school dropout is making it continue proving a negative impact on economic development.
