Uganda opposition to give response to national budget speech

Opposition shadow minister of finance Geoffrey Ekanya is in the process of making a comprehensive response regarding the recently read National budget 2011/12.

FDC spokesperson and shadow minister of information Wafula Oguttu has made the announcement, warning all Ugandans of tough economic times ahead.

Wafula says what was presented is an austerity budget; sugar coated with price reductions, which he says is all nothing.

Oguttu adds that the reductions are too significant to translate into reduced prices in the food stores and markets, which cannot address the rising cost of living in both short and long terms.

Wafula however believes that it is not yet too late for Government to waive taxes on petrol and diesel as a way of mitigating the cost of transport which invariably contributes to the costs that are often passed on to consumers.
