Lack of latrine threatens to lead to Kabarole school closure

There are fears of cholera out break at Nyakasura Junior Primary School in Bukuku sub county Kabarole district resulting from lack of enough latrine facilities.

Reliable sources reveal one of the latrine stances was last year closed by the health inspector because of its poor condition.

Currently the over 800 pupils in are using a four stance latrine that was constructed under the school facilitation grant (SFG) in 2004 which is also in a sorry state.

Nyakahuma William the head teacher Nyakasura Junior School says that a lot of promises have been made by the sub county to construct latrines at the school but nothing has yet materialised.

He says that the current situation is a tragedy to the pupils’ health which in the long run may lead to the closure of the school.

Bright Rwankwenge the Bukuku sub county chair person says that plans are under way to construct a pit latrine for the school in the first quarter of this financial year.

Nyakasura Junior School is set to represent Kabarole district in the regional cricket competition due to take place on the 17th June at Kacheka stadium in Mbarara district.
