Formers prisoners call government to consider them in public service jobs

Former Luzira prisoners have organized a conference to advocate for the rights of prisoners and former prisoners.

The two day conference at imperial royal Hotel in Kampala is being attended by various stakeholders including the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Human rights organizations and Civil society organizations.

The formers prisoners under their association Mission after custody have asked the government to find ways of integrating them into society after completing their sentences.

The group’s chairperson James Mukasa says many of them have skills but fail to get jobs because they are still being stigmatized upon release.

Last month hundreds of Luzira prisoners graduated in various fields at Makerere University Business School.
