Fish traders asked to improve fish quality

The fish traders and fishermen have been asked to improve the quality of fish before they take it to the market.

The Minister of Fisheries, Ruth Nankabirwa told the people at Ggaba landing site to avoid spreading fish on the ground for sun drying to maintain hygiene.

In her tours to the landing sites on Lake Victoria Nankabirwa asks fish traders to always dry fish on the raised racks such that fish is not dirtied.

She also advises the fish traders to improve the quality of fish to increase its value.

Nankabirwa has sounded a warning that the fish that will be found spread on papyrus mats down will be impound and burnt.

Nankabirwa who recently staged a battle against fishing and selling of immature fish, says that the fishing industry has remained backward due to poor handling methods of fish by most fish traders.
