President Yoweri Museveni the move will correct irregularities in the land market where people have been faking land titles.

This follows several complaints by individuals and companies that it is becoming increasingly difficult to know whether a land title is genuine or not, because of the easiness to which land titles can change and the ease of changing the records maintained manually in the land registry.

Museveni also says the government is to implement the national land policy to ensure Uganda’s land is put to optimal use while maintaining the rights of all land users.

The government passed the national land policy in 2008 and amended the land Act in 2010 in a move aimed at strengthening rights of tenants on registered land among others.
