Government expecting power suppliers to resume

 Government is negotiating with Independent power companies to switch on power as they finalize plans to settle the outstanding arrears amounting to 307 billion shillings that made them to switch off power.

State Minister for Privatization Hon Aston Kajara while appearing before the joint Committee of Budget and Natural Resources said the problem of power shortage will soon be minimized as soon as part of the money is paid totalling to 92 billion shilling to enable them buy fuel to man the machines.

The Minister for Energy Eng Irene Muloni who also was before the committee said Government is going to close some thermal power generators as Bujagali Hydro-power dam comes on line in November this year to cut on the costs and among those to be affected will be Mutudwe thermal plant Aggreko thermal In Jinja among others.

She also assured the parliament that after commissioning of Bujagali load shedding will be minimal.

The committee Chaired by Kyamuswa County MP suspended the proceedings of the committee saying they cannot approve what they don’t know and requested to come back with detailed information before a resolution is made to approve the money
