44% Ugandan men embrace circumcision

A newly released study report has shown that 44 % of Uganda men intend to get circumcised.

The study was conducted by Health Communication Partnership in 2010 in 31 districts of Uganda out of 2896 men.

A researcher with Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Program, Dr. Esther Kaggwa said that male circumcision is good because it also reduces the chance of the partners from acquiring cervical cancer.

The study unveiled at the just concluded world AIDS forum in Rome also shows that nwe cases of HIV among men dropped by an astonishing 76% after a circumcision programme.

The Uganda’s HIV/AIDS prevalence rate is 6.4% and it is estimated that 110,000 people, including over 20,000 children, are infected with HIV annually.
