Ministry of Education to declare MUBS an independent university

Makerere University Business School MUBS will next week be granted their independence following long stand rope pulling on its autonomy from Makerere University.

While appearing to the social service committee the permanent secretary in the ministry of education Francis Lubanga said the minister of education will present the statutory instrument legalizing Makerere University Business School MUBS as a an independent university.

Freddie Semukono, Acting Principal MUBS, says they have collaborated with Makerere University to set up an independent
committee that will review the programs being offered at the new university.

Lubanga says under Section 82(a) of the Universities and other Tertiary Institutions Act, which relates to the awarding of degrees and a resolution of Parliament MUBS will declare it as one of the public tertiary institution in the country.

MUBS was established in 1997 as a component college of Makerere University after merge of MUK Faculty of Commerce and then Nakawa National College of Business Studies Lubanga says after granting MUBS its autonomy status as an
independent University Business school, the cordial relationship will cease.
