Taxi driver remanded over driving under the influence of marijuana

A taxi driver has been remanded for six months for driving under the influence of marijuana. Bugiri grade I magistrate Salim Zinsanze found Yusuf Sekajja guilty of the office.

Court heard that Sekajja a resident of Seta Wakiso district was found driving along the Jinja-Bugiri highway while chewing marijuana.

The matter was brought to the attention of the police by one of the passenger leading to the arrest at Naluwere trading centre.

Appearing before court yesterday morning, the driver took guilty plea and the magistrate immediately ruled that he should be remanded for six months into jail.

The Magistrate says it is against the Ugandan laws to consume marijuana one of the banned drugs in Uganda. The Bugiri district police commander Richard Musisi says passengers should be vigilant to and report all drivers who get to the steering wheel under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
