Uganda consumers start protest over high cost of living

Uganda consumers’ protection awareness association has today announced the start of a defiance campaign against high costs of consumer goods in the country.

According to the chairman of the association, Mulwani Taminwa, the campaign which starts with sensitizing consumers on the objectives of the campaign for the first seven days, and later turn into a defiance campaign is geared at calling for accountability from UMEME on the money paid by consumers to supply power among other consumer good like fuel.

The association maintains that govt has deliberately refused to act on the rising commodity prices naming, food and non food items, fuel, depreciation of the shilling, power shortages which has forced them to call for a demonstration.

He also adds that they are to collect more than one thousand signatures from consumers’ country to be used while petitioning UMEME in court.
