Parliament Speaker Rebecca Kadaga advocates for spraying of DDT

The speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga has advised donors , and advocates of the Millennium Development Goals to invest in spraying of DDT to put an end to the Malaria epidemic instead of wasting resources on Mosquito nets.

Addressing members of the Uganda Parliamentary Forum on Millennium Development Goals, kagada said the spraying DDT would be more effective in fighting malaria than the Treated Insecticide treated mosquito nets.

Giving her own experience Kadaga said that even with a mosquito net at home, someone can be subjected to a mosquito bite outside their bed or during day time which can cause malaria.

Kadaga noted that all government departments and concerned parties take a decision to start spraying DDT as the best solution to stop malaria infections.

Meanwhile Kadaga stressed the need for increased health budget to ensure health facilities are closer to the people especially in the rural areas in order to realize the health related Millennium Development Goals.

She says failure to access health facilities by mothers contributes to the high child and maternal mortality which need to be addressed.
