Parliament unhappy with government expenditure on vehicles and trips

Members of Parliament on the Parliamentary Committee on Trade, Tourism and Industry have expressed concern over government’s continued expenditure on vehicles and travel abroad which to them are not necessary.

Meeting the Minister of trade Amelia Kyambadde, privatization Stephen Kajara and secretary to the treasury Keith Muhakanizi among others, the committee chaired by MP Stephen Kagwera (Burahya) said the budgetary allocation to the travels abroad is alarming and should be cut.

Samia Bugwe north MP John Mulimba says the 67 billion shillings for procurement of state house and ministry of finance vehicles should be cut and instead cater for drugs and ambulances for referral hospitals in the country.

He said that according to the budget speech procurement of vehicles was to remain in critical areas like hospitals but in the budget those areas have been not been allocated, an act that contradicts the budget speech.
