The Bishop of west Buganda diocese Godfrey Makumbi has banned any sale of church land in his diocese.

Makumbi made the announcement on the ban at St. Paul cathedral Kako while addressing over 240 lay leaders of west Buganda diocese.

West Buganda diocese has 14 square kilometers of land in parts of Kako Rwengo, Bukomansimbi, Rakai, Masaka and Sembabule.

Makumbi says they have setup a committee in the diocese to protect the church land from being grabbed by thieves.

He says although the church does not have money to develop the land, they need the land for future development projects. Makumbi urged the lay leaders to be faithful and trust worthy.

In 2009 Christians in West Buganda were up in arms accusing the retired Bishop Kefa Kamya semakula of selling off church land in Sembabule and diverting the money for his own personal use.
