Makerere University council confirms closure over strike

The governing council of Makerere University has today announced the closure of the university following a meeting held with lecturers over demanding for salary increment and their pension held with NIC.

In a heated up meeting between the varsity council and MUASA, both parties failed to agree on one position of waiting as the government processes their pay which lecturers were strongly insisting that they need their money and increase this financial year forcing the chairman of the governing council, Charles Wana Atien to announce the closure until further notice with students urged to go back home apart from foreign students and those with physical disabilities.

The lecturers vowed not to leave campus saying the current problems have to be solved in their presence.

However, some of the students we managed to talk to vowed not to leave campus calling for immediate action from govt into the current crisis.
