Teddy Sseezi Cheeye pleads for Museveni’s help

After the Supreme Court dismissed Teddy Sseezi Cheeye’s appeal in which he was challenging his conviction and 10-year prison sentence for embezzling 120 million shillings from the Global Fund, he has now resorted to seek prerogative of mercy from president Museveni.

Cheeye after his conviction

Cheeye, 55, the former presidential advisor on economic monitoring has reportedly written to Uganda’s head of state to save him from the jail saying that he is of advanced age, has high blood pressure and acute ulcers.

Cheeye’s letter has already reached statehouse, according to our informers. Sources at statehouse tell this journalist that this is the second letter Cheeye has written to the president over the same. The first letter reportedly reached statehouse a couple of months back. It seems Cheeye wrote a second letter thinking that the first one did not reach the most influential house in Uganda.

Cheeye’s  appeal was rejected recently by the Supreme Court judges led by Chief Justice, Benjamin Odoki. On the coram were Justices John Wilson Tsekooko, Christine Kitumba, Jotham Tumwesigye and Elizabeth Kisaakye.

In his appeal, Cheeye, had said that he was wrongly charged and convicted of embezzlement because he was not an employee of the Global Fund nor the health ministry.
