Ingrid Turinawe of FDC. She heads the party's WOmen's League

This is after she was arrested and charged in court after her standoff with the police who blocked her accessing the city centre.

Turinawe was stopped from attending a press conference by the Activists for Change, during which they announced fresh Walk to Work protests.

She was charged of inconsiderate use of the road, driving without a permit and failure to comply with a police order.

The FDC’s Sam Njuba, Apollo Kantinti and SalaamaMusumba stood surety for her.

She has been released after paying cash bail of 500,000 shillings.

Speaking shortly after being set free, Turinawe condemned the status of the Kasangati prison, which she says is appalling.

She says the FDC Party members will be taking up the matter in Parliament to ensure improved conditions of living in the country’s prisons.
