Uganda to develop nuclear energy

The President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni has assured Ugandans and the world at large that proceeds from the sale of oil would not be misused as some people have been expecting.

The President while addressing MPs in Kampala today said that his government will make laws to prevent misuse of oil resources.

Museveni told MPs that oil is a finite resource which might dry out any time so the government will use its proceeds to makeUgandago to the mars. He says that the government will not allow its officials to use oil cash to buy cars, marry and travel toLondon,USA.

However a big number of MPs doubted Museveni’s assurance saying that the oil cash will have to be misused as long as the NRM regime is still in power. Why? This is because most of its cadres and officials are reportedly corrupt and some of them have been found guilty of corruption related charges.

Uganda has over 58 oil wells expected to produce over 2.5 billion barrels.  Museveni says that he wants the government to use the oil proceeds to develop hydro electricity and nuclear energy among other things.
