Voter bribery, arrests of opposition members mar Kasese woman MP by elections

Voter bribery, intimidation of supporters and arrests of opposition members marred Kasese district woman MP by elections on Wednesday.

There was heavy military and police deployment in the district. But the voter turn up was low at most of the poling stations and a number of voting irregularities were reported.

Much of the vote rigging was registered at Ruhwenzori Square polling station where some opposition supporters found their names ticked on the voter register.

One of the opposition supporters in Kasese, Nason Muhingo  says that he found his name ticked on the voter register when he had not yet voted.

Other cases of violence were reported at Rusese Polling Station outside the Military Barracks in Bukonjo west, after the residents there realized that the number of military men lined up to vote, exceeded the number of voters in the voters register.
