New O-level subjects: old subjects scrapped

After the government has scraped all the 32 subjects that were being offered at O-Level schools around Uganda, the Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) and the National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC), a body mandated to handle education curricula in Uganda have come out with new subjects to be offered from senior one to senior four.

The subjects that UNEB and NCDC have created to place geography, history, divinity among other subjects that have been previously offered at O-Level include technology, enterprise, creative arts, science, social studies, and life education.

Sources told us that the scrapped subjects have been so many yet they had not helped much to bring out the expected understanding and development to the country.

TheUgandagovernment sources told us that the new subjects are expected to help students to acquire a balanced understanding of skills and values vital in daily life.

Ms Grace Baguma, the deputy director NCDC says that the new academic curriculum for O-level will be unearthed in 2014.
