Concern rises over Kanungu Kibwetere inferno report

Members of the parliamentary committee on defense and internal affairs have expressed concern over the failure by security agencies to come out with a report on the Kanungu inferno.

This was after interfacing with a group of people claiming to have lost their relatives petitioned parliament asking for its intervention into the matter.

The group led by one Boaz Idiidi also wants to be given the land where the church was built.

The acting committee chairperson Peter Eriaku described as unfortunate the fact that after 12 years government has not come out with a report on the incident.

He says information received from the petitioners indicating that Kibwetere was last seen at Ishasha at the Uganda –Congo boarder may be useful to the security agencies.

In 2000 about 1000 followers of the cult group led by Joseph Kibwetere of the Movement for the Restoration of the Ten Commandments perished in an inferno in Kanungu.
