MPs cry foul over arrest of their colleagues

A group on members of parliament has started collecting signatures to recall parliament from recess.

Led by Masaka Municipality MP Mathias Mpuuga the MPs say they want to compell the speaker to recall the house to deliberate on what they call attempts by the executive to overtake the powers of parliament.

Referring to the arrest of three of their colleagues currently in police custody Mpuuga says it is unfortunate that MPs are now being summoned and held without clear charges being preferred against them.

He says the process of collecting signatures started this afternoon.
