Museveni says is not interested in running for president for fifth term

Kampala, Uganda-Ugandan president Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni says he is no longer interested in running for president for a fifth term when his term of office expires in 2016.

There have been speculations that Uganda’s longest serving president (Museveni) is still interested in running for president. Museveni, while meeting his military commanders at Statehouse Kampala yesterday reportedly said that the ‘ball is now in the hands of the ruling party’ to decide on who should replace him as presidential candidate.

Museveni says that the ruling party is still free to decide that Museveni is its candidate. “But for me as an individual I can not force it because my dream is not to rule Uganda for life,” a source in UPDF quotes Museveni as saying.

Museveni barred the secrets on his heart at a time when the ruling party is plotting the way forward for Uganda after Museveni’s term of office expires in 2016, fueling speculation that Museveni is preparing his son Muhoozi Kainerugaba to replace him.
