Museveni directs electoral commission to elect representatives of professional bodies

President Museveni has directed the chairman of electoral commission Eng. Badru Kigundu to elect representatives of professional bodies to Kampala City Council (KCCA).

Section 13(3) of the KCCA act, 2011 (act no. 1 of 2011), stipulates inter alia, that, professional bodies that include engineers, architects, lawyers, and medical doctors should elect their representatives/councilors to KCCA. It is against this background that the president has instructed the electoral commission to approve the program for conducting the above polls.

The secretary for electoral commission, Sam Rwakoojo has confirmed the development and said that on 11th October 2013 there will be a consultative meeting with stakeholders ie the minister for KCCA, members of professional bodies, KCCA officials, members of political parties, media, security and the electoral commission officials.

Rwakoojo says that on 14th October the commission will display electoral college registers at returning officers offices and professional bodies offices. On 18th October the commission will display names of poling officials while on 6th November and 15th November it will train poling day officials thereafter nominations, campaigns, polling and declaration of results would be done.
